An overview of Ainsworth and the strange situation procedure
Stage one – mother baby and experimenter were in in the room for less than one minute.
Stage two – mother and baby alone in the room
Stage three- a stranger joins the mother and infant in the room .
Stage four – mother leaves baby and stranger alone in the room.
Stage five – mother returns and the stranger leaves the room.
Stage six – mother leaves the infant is completely left alone in the room .
Stage seven – stranger returns to the room.
Stage eight – mother returns and stranger leaves the room.
What are the five attachment stages?
Securely attached
Ambivalent attached
Avoiding attached
What are the behaviours associated with a child being securely attached?
Separation distress
Want to be close to their caregiver
And they have a secure base .
What are the behaviours associated by the child with ambivalent attached?
Being clinging and fearful of abandonment
Seek constant attention .
What behaviours may a child display being avoidant attached?
Withdrawal
Denial of emotions
Independent
Inconsistent behaviour .
