A
- interaction flows back and forth between caregiver and infant

A
- infants react in time with the caregiver’s speech, resulting in ‘conversation dance’

A
- 0 to 3 months
- baby learns to separate people from objects, but has no strong preferences about who cares for it

- infant begins to clearly distinguish and recognise different people
- still no strong preferences about who cares for it

- infant becomes able to form a strong attachment with an individual
- avoids strangers

- infant can form attachments to many different people
