Attachment Flashcards
What is the aim of meltzoff and Moore’s study?
To examine interactions synchrony in infants
What method was used by meltzoff and Moore?
Used a controlled observation, an adult model displayed one of three facial expressions, the infants reactions were filmed
What are the results of meltzoff and Moore’s study?
There was a clear association between the infants behaviour and that of the adult model, later research found the same findings in 3 day old infants
What conclusion can be made from meltzoff and Moore’s study
Intersectional synchrony is innate
What was the 4 stages of Schaffer and Emerson (1964)
Asocial. Indiscriminate, discriminate and multiple
What was Schaffer and Emerson’s aim?
To examine the formation of early attachments
What was Schaffer and Emerson’s method?
60 babies, from working class families participated from Glasgow, researchers observed the children and interviewed the mothers
What were the results found by Schaffer and Emerson?
25-32 weeks 50% of children showed separation anxiety,
At 40 weeks, 80% had discriminate attachment and 30% showed multiple attachments
What conclusion was drawn in Schaffer and Emerson’s study
That attachment develops through a series of stages and some support is shown for schaffers stages of attachment
