Anticholinergic
MOA
Inhibits the action of acetylcholine
Indications
Bradycardia
Contraindications
- Tachycardia
- Hypersensitivity
- Bradycardia due to acute hemorrhage
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
Durg Interaction
Effects enhanced by antihistamines, procainamide, quinidine, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, and antidepressants
Adult Dosage and administration
0.5 mg IV/IO every 3-5 minutes as needed (max dose: 3mg)
Pedi Dosage
0.02 mg/kg IV/IO (min dose: 0.1 mg; max single dose: 0.5 mg) May repeat x1 in 3-5 min if needed
Duration of Action
Onset: immediate
Peak Effect: rapid to 1-2 min
Duration: 2-6 hours
Special Considerations
Atropine is also used to reverse Organophosphate/Nerve Agent/Beta Blocker/Calcium Channel blocker overdose in the Paramedic scope of practice
