Q

Atropine action

A

Antagonises the parasympathetic effects of acetylcholine on muscarinic receptors resulting in:
1 increase heart rate via increasing intrinsic rate of the SA node and conduction through the AV node
2 reducing smooth muscle contraction resulting in pupillary dilation, reduced GI motility and reduced bladder tone
3 blocks exocrine gland activity causing decreased salivary, bronchial, gastric and sweat secretions
