Atrial Fibrillation Flashcards
What do you use to determine whether the patient needs Anticoagulants and what does this consist of?
CHA2DS2VASC-
Congestive Heart Failure
Hypertension
Age - >75
Diabetes Mellitus
Stroke, transient ischaemic attack /
thromboembolism
Vascular Disease (prior MI, PVD or aortic atherosclerosis)
Age 65-74
Sexual Category (f)
In AF, if a CHA2DS2-VASc score suggests no need for anticoagulation, what do you need to do!
ECHOCARDIOGRAM
do an echo to exclude valvular heart disease
CHADSVASC score indication, and what does it mean it terms of anticoagulation
Score Anticoagulation
0 No treatment
1 Males: Consider anticoagulation
Females: No treatment (this is because their score of 1 is
only reached due to their gender)
2 or more Offer anticoagulation
What are the agents with proven efficacy in the pharmacological cardioversion of atrial fibrillation
amiodarone + flecainide
these drugs will cardiovert back to sinus rhythm (normal rhythm)
