Atrial fibrillation Flashcards
SA Node is what wave and what does it stand for what does it measure?
Sinoatrial Node
P Wave
Rate of atria
AV node determines what? what interval is it? what does it allow?
Atrioventricular junction
PR Interval
Atrial kick:20-25% of CO
Ventricles in conduction
QRS
What three things make the heart work?
electrical conduction
connection to muscles
good coronary
what is happening during atrial fibrillation?
the atrial is “twitching” low CO and O2
What are the risk of Atrial fibrillation?
Clots MI, PE, CVA, DVT
What causes Atrial fibrillation ?
OHS, Pulmonary HTN, HTN, Alcohol
What are S/S of Atrial Fib?
COLLAPSED
Chest pain, Oxygen (low) Lethargy, Anxiety, Palpitation, SOB, Elevated ventricular rate, Dizzy
Pt Goal for pt. with Atrial fibrillation?
decrease HR, restore normal electrical conduction in SA node, Effective pump in atria, Prevents Clots
Nurse intervention and treatment for A FIB?
ABCDE
Anticoagulant
Betablocker
Cardiac ablation
Digoxin
Echo cardioversion
What are anticoagulant meds?
Heparin, Eliquis, coumadin
What should you monitor when taking anticoagulant ?
INR 2.5-3.5
What is a maze procedure?
channels electrical signals to proper pathway
What is the reversal to heparin and coumadin ?
Heparin: protamine
Coumadin: Vit k
what test should nurse do for heparin and coumadin levels?
PTT/PT INR
