What does atraumatic care mean?
Therapeutic care that minimizes or eliminates the psychological and physical distress experiences by the child and families
Principles of atraumatic care
-Avoid harmful techniques such as injections, catherization, NPO status
-Give medication to prevent nausea, vomiting and pain
-Treat the child; treat the family
-Dont seperate the child from parents
-Know the family, ask questions
-Good communication skills
