Why do we get energy from ATP?
A
Animals can’t get their energy directly from glucose so glucose is sued to make ATP which we can use as ana negative currency.

Why is ATP useful as an energy currency?
A
- It releases energy in manageable amounts.
- It releases energy instantaneously.
- It can be readily re-synthesised
- Phosphorylates other compounds and makes them more reactive.

How do we make ATP?
A
A condensation reaction between ADP and an inorganic phosphate is catalysed by ATP synthase.

How do we break down ATP?
A
A hydrolysis reaction catalysed by ATP hydrolase. The products are ADP and inorganic phosphate.
