Learn about endangered species in your AOR using the?
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Build a work schedule and Federal Aid Information Document (FID) inspection dates around the
endangered species habits and/or breeding cycle, hibernation cycle, etc.
Identify the different types of protected species or habitat within your AOR to work an AID?
a. Consult with cognizant
dpw and sector staff.
b.Consult with cognizant dpw Civil
Engineering Unit (CEU)/Resource agency.
What do you do for Coral reefs in your AOR?
a. Determine a plan with the local agency.
b. Determine the type of Aid that can prevent the coral reefs from further damage, understand that the buoy or structure may cause a little damage but the risk will outweigh the gain.
The Living Marine Resources Program (LMRP) includes the
Coast Guard’s enforcement of treaties, laws, and regulations pertaining to activities that support conservation and recovery of species in peril and the management of fisheries, protected species, and marine protected areas.
Marine Mammal Protection Act
(MMPA)?
a.“Take” a marine mammal. Taking a marine mammal means to harass,
hunt, capture, collect, kill, or attempt to do any of these things. This
includes collecting dead animals or parts; feeding, restraining, or
detaining no matter how temporary;
b.
Endangered Species Act
ESA
.a. Import any endangered species into, or export any such species from,
the United States. Endangered species also include any products, eggs,
body parts, or dead bodies of any of the species on the list.
b. Take (harass, harm, pursue, hurt, shoot, wound, kill, trap, capture, or

ESA regulations in regard to the 150 endangered and threatened
marine species.
Reason for temporary change arises: Dredging, testing, or evaluating new
aids; marking an obstruction; other reasons (a Coast Guard approved
intentional change to the authorized characteristics of an ATON).
DPW approves temp changes which is no longer than 6 months
Once you generate a work schedule in Iatonis? what does the info display?
Review the report. The report displays ATON by I-ATONIS LLNR), work area name, and aid number. It also displays the due dates for aid inspections, mooring inspections, hull relief,
and battery recharge.
Unit work areas defined in I-ATONIS do not always mimic the geographic bounds in the LL.
When adding aides to a work list in
I-ATONIS make sure they are within the geographic bounds desired by the unit.
