Atomsphere Flashcards
Troposphere
0-12km
All weather exists here
Most pollution collects here
Temp decreases as altitude increases due to decreased pressue
Straosphere
Contains ozone layers
Less moisture and pollution
14-50km
Due to the high concentration of ozone (which absorbs heat) gets warmer (temp inversion)
Mesosphere
50-85km No moisture, nothing to retain heat Pressure continues to drop strong winds due to lack of friction No pollution
Thermosphere
85-140km
Temperature inversion due to the presence of atomic oxygen
Extremely low pressure
Tropopause, Stratopause, Mesopause
Isothermal layers, where despite an increase in altitude, temperature and pressure remain constant
Polar Cell
Air rises and diverges towards to poles
Ferrell Cell
Responsible for westerlies
Hadley Cell
Air rises at the equator and sinks at a medium latitude

Nimbostratus
