Atoms Make Up Matter Flashcards
What is matter made of?
Atoms
Can atoms be divided into smaller particles?
Yes, the subatomic particles.
What are the subatomic particles
Neutron(neutral), Proton(positive) and Electron(negative)
Do elements have the same atoms of different atoms?
Same atoms.
Can particles be seen with the naked eye?
No, they are way too tiny.
Are particles always moving?
Yes, the hotter it is the faster they move and the colder it is the slower they move.
Do particles have mass?
Yes.
What happens when particles join other particles?
They form larger particles and when they combine, their masses add together.
What holds particles together to stop them from separating?
Forces.
Where are the protons, electrons and neutrons located?
The nucleus.
What are the subatomic particles most responsible for in the atom?
They are most responsible for the most atom mass in the atom, thus why they have a strong influence of the properties of the atom.
Role of electrons?
To orbit the nucleus in shells and interact with other atoms.
What is the smallest atom in terms of mass?
Hydrogen
How could you describe the set out of subatomic particles
Its similar as to how planets orbit the sun.
