Q

Name some distinctive features in metals.

A
  • solid at room temperature (except Mercury)
  • shiny if polished
  • electrical conductors

6
Q

Why is it called the Periodic Table?

A

The properties of elements in a group are found to have repeating or periodic behaviour. Elements having the same properties appear in the same column (group).

Q

Who was Mendeleev?

A

Mendeleev was the Russian chemist who put forward the structure of the table and was so confident of his structure that he was able to identify the properties of elements that were unknown then. He was subsequently proven to be right.
