Atoms Flashcards
Atoms
Smallest complete unit of matter
Atoms translate as
Complete
Molecules
2 or more atoms bonded together
The three Sub - Atomic Particles:
Electrons, Neutrons, Protons
About Electrons:
Negative Charge, orbits Nucleus, creates electricity
About Neutrons:
Neutral Charge, Buffer Like ( example - PP doesn’t attract. PNP does work because the neutral charge doesn’t have anything that would make the protons repel from it ! )
About Protons:
Positive Charge, determines identity
Ionic Bond
A bond where atoms give and take electrons or a bond formed by two oppositely charged particles
Covalent Bond
A bond where atoms share electrons with each other
Mole
Conversion unit between the amount in grams and the amount in atoms
Chemical Equation
The written form of a chemical reaction
Chemical Reaction
What happens when two molecules or atoms are combined and change form
Element
A substance made of one thing/type of atom
A identity of a particular atom
Compound
A substance made up of two or more things
Coefficient
The number that represents the number of moles you have of a particular substance in a chemical equation
