Atomic Structure Flashcards
What is an atom made of ?
It is made of protons, neutrons and electrons
What are the first 20 elements of the periodic table?
Hydrogen, helium, lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon, sodium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, phosphorus, sulfuric acid, chlorine, argon, potassium, calcium
What are rows and columns called in the periodic table
Rows= Period
Columns =Group
What happens to the mass number as you go across and down the periodic table.
The mass number increases as you go across the periods and down the group
What is the mass number made out of
Total numbers of the proton and neutron
How do you find the amount of neurons from the mass number
Mass number - atomic number=Neutron
What does the proton and electron have in similar
The same amount of atomic number
What are the properties of proton
-Found in the nucleus
- have a positive charge
-have the same mass as electrons
What are the properties of electron
- Has a negetive electrical change
- has the same amount as proton
-Not found in the nucleus
What are the properties of neutrons
-Found in the nucleus
- Have no electrical charge
-Can be calculated using the mass number and atomic number
