Atom economies and percentage yields Flashcards
What is the atom economy of a reaction?
It is the theoretical percentage of how many atoms are wasted in the reaction.
Why do we calculate atom economy?
To find the practical efficiency.
What is the equation for atom economy?
Atom economy = (Mr of desired product/ Mr of total products) x100
What does the percentage yield tell us?
The practical efficacy of the process and how much is lost by:
Obtaining the product
Result of the reactions that didn’t finish.
Why is atom economy and percentage yield just theory?
This is because you will never get exactly what you’re supposed to get due to precipitate.
What is the percentage yield equation?
Percentage yield = actual yield/ theoretical yield x100
