Atmospheric Chemistry Flashcards
What are background gases?
‘natural’ gases of ratios similar to that of remote areas far away from anthropogenic activity.
How is oxidisation identified within a reaction?
The loss of hydrogen from a compound.
How is reduction identified within a reaction?
The reduction of oxygen and/or the increase of hydrogen atoms.
What are the three kinds of process identified for sources and sinks of these gases?
Natural emissions from the earth (volcanic, oceans, animal waste, biological activity etc.), chemical transformations within the atmosphere and sinks: wet or dry deposition on the surface.
What oxygen molecule makes up the Ozone?
O3
Finish the line: the shorter the wavelength (λ) of electromagnetic radiation, the higher the…
energy of the assosicated photon.
Whats the difference between dry deposition and wet deposition?
Dry deposition is the direct deposit of acidic molecules (sulphuric acid) on biological organism or water and soil.
Wet deposition is when a soluable acidic molecule (sulphuric acid) is dissolved into water; rain, snow etc.
