Anatomical Position
Standing upright with arms at sides, palms facing forward.
Prone
Laying face down.
Supine
Laying face up.
Transverse/Horizontal Plane
Passes across the body perpendicular to the long axis.
Coronal/Frontal Plane
Extends vertically perpendicular to the sagittal plane. Divides body to Front and Back (anterior and posterior.)
Sagittal Plane
Divides body into left and right portions.
Caudal
toward the tail or inferior end.

Toward ventral side.

Space between the parietal and visceral layers and is lubricated by peritoneal fluid. Located in abdominopelvic cavity.
Serous Membranes
Membranes that secrete lubricating film of moisture similar to blood serum. Line both thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities.
Parietal layer
Outer layer of the pericardium.
Visceral layer.
Inner layer of the pericardium.
