Altan are an Irish folk music group. They were formed in County Donegal in 1987 by lead vocalist Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and her since-dead husband Frankie Kennedy.They remain the world’s foremost Irish traditional group with over a million records sold.They were the first traditional group to be signed to a major label, Virgin Records in 1994. They have fans from Ireland, UK, Europe, United States, Japan and many more.
How many bands members which instrument did they play each
There are 6 band members,each with a role to play themselves. Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and her husband Frankie Kennedy were the lead vocalist, Mairéad also played the fiddle. Ciarán Tourish played the fiddle too. Ciarán Curran played the Irish bouzouki, Mark Kelly played the guitar(not an Irish instrument),Dáithí Sproule played the guitar and vocals and Martin Tourish played the accordion.
Ceol Aduaidh (what year and what record label )
Two years later, in 1983, they released their first album together, Ceol Aduaidh, on the Gael-Linn Records label.
Collabarations
Altan have collaborated with different musicians. These musicians are: Harry Bradley, Jim Higgins , Tim Edey and Dolly Parton.
Harry Bradley playing the flute, and Jim Higgins doing percussion, were guests in Altans album called The Poison Glen.
