What type of respiration w/ Hyperglycemia (>250)?
Kussmaul (rapid, deep) with fruity odor (due to ketones)
What are ketones?
the leftovers when the body burns fat for fuel
common in diabetes b/c the body is unable to use glucose, thus it uses fat for fuel
HbA1c levels in peds
4-6%, but an acceptable target for kids w/ diabetes is 6.5-8%
How could toxins/viruses predispose children to Diabetes?
by destroying beta cells in pancreas
