What administration considerations apply to methotrexate?
Available: oral, IV, IM, preservative-free intrathecal form
For: high-dose cancer therapy
Antidote: Leucovorin (form of folic acid)
Given w/ or w/out food
IV form is not compatible with other drugs
What administration considerations apply to cytarabine?
Available: Sub-Q, IV, intrathecal use
Give: Sub-Q form every 1-4 weeks, intrathecal form 4 consecutive days/ dose every 4 days
Decrease normal dose for renal impairment

Give: does once daily w/ or w/out food
Base dose on client weight

Slow IV rate for red streaking along vein or skin flushing

Available: IV
Dose should be based on weight & decreased w/ liver impairment
Avoid contact with eyes— causes corneal damage
Admin directly into tubing & infuse IV fluid over at least a minute
What administration considerations apply to paclitaxel?
Available: 2 IV forms- Taxol (solvent system); requires pre-treatment w/ antihistamine, corticosteroid, histamine2-receptor blocker 30 min prior to infusion; non-PVC tubing & IV bag is needed; infuse over 3 hrs using inline IV filter
Abraxane- no pretreatment or special equipment; dissolve in vial; infuse over 30 min w/out inline IV filter
Paclitaxel is infused every 2-3 weeks
What administration considerations apply to topotecan?
Available: IV
Base dose on weight; adjust for renal impairment
Infused over 30 min for 5 consecutive days; repeat 4x w/ 16 day rest periods in between

Available: oral
Admin 3x daily
Begin when GnRH drug is started

Admin 1-2x daily

Available: Sub-Q, IM, IV
Give: prescribed biologic response modifier; verify doses (usually in Million units(MU))
Admin route & amount depends on disorder
Inject diluent into vial & gently roll until clear before withdrawing
