Electrical Systems
A
- three pronged hospital grade plugs nad outlets and circuit breakers protect ewuipment
- GFI (ground fault interrupter) on electrical outlets. prevents shock
- spacing: every 4’ to 3’
- taping area is the busiest

Plumbing Systems

- should be expandable for future needs
- hot and cold
- floor drains with sloping floor
- ice machine: separate cold water line and floor drain
- whirlpools: ideal is WP drains directly into it’s own floor drain. must have an overflow drain
- foot-pedal activator for handwashing
- soap, paper towels, paper cups, drinking fountain

Ventilation systems
A
- often not adequate or not considered when planning AT facilities
- temperature control
- humidity control
- excessive humidity is a hygiene problem as well as comfort
- exhaust fans in hydrotherapy area
- AT should have its own thermostat and air conditioning

Lighting
A
- between 30 and 50 foot candles at a height of 4 feet off the floor
- different service areas require different lighting

Service Areas
A
- Treatment: treatment tables, stools, hydro, ice
- electrotherapy: modalities, grounded outlets, treatment tables
- hydrotherapy: central floor drain, whirlpools, shelving and storage. outlets must be 5” above floor
- exercise rehab: adequate space and equipment for rehab
