19
Q

What does RMIU do?

A

compensates longitudinal and lateral displacements for reeling machine installation and pitch of funnel, then provides them to AFCS and mission systems

Q

Each time dome lowering/raising is stopped/started in water, cable angle signals are decoupled from AFCS by RMIU for __ seconds to __

A

25
Caution for outer ring being exceeded while dome is exiting the water
increased risk of sonar dome striking a/c which may result in equipment damage
26
AFCS defaults to hover mode when dome is raised through
27 +/- 12 ft
27
If one axis (lat/long) fails, press __; remaining axis is __
reset; fully functional
28
Conditions required for cable angle hover mode
+/-5 KGS, altitude hold within 10 ft of selected altitude, dome wet indication
29
cable angle hover mode keeps the dome perpendicular to
the water surface/horizon
30
with submerge override engaged, cable angle hover will ___ disengage when dome leaves water
not automatically
31
Mk-54 Launch Envelope Speeds & Altitude
55-110 KIAS | 200-525 ft
32
Sonobuoy Launch Envelope
>= 70 ft 0-150 KIAS 0-30 AOB
33
Gate Position
Aircraft into wind, wings level, FTP on nose (0.3 nm for day, 0.5 no for night)
34
Day and Night approach distances
Day - 0.6 nm, 0.3 nm | Night - 1.5 nm, 0.5 nm
35
Engage hover mode when
Less than 5 KGS
36
Steady coupled hover
70 ft, less than 4 KGS
37
At night, turns shall not be initiated until
Stabilized flight at 150 ft
38
Requirements for Cable Angle Hover Mode
Ground speed of +/- 5 knots Altitude hold within 10 ft of selected Dome wet indication
39
Potentiometers should be used to adjust groundspeed to (WING SOP)
No greater than 2 KGS
40
Cable angle hover mode ___ be operable for all dipping sonar ops (WING SOP)
Shall
41
Dipping sonar ops ___ not be conducted in seas with wave heights in excess ___, winds in excess of ___, or known/discovered currents greater than ___ during unit level training or fleet level exercises (WING SOP)
Should; 10 ft, 17-21 kts, 4 kts
42
During dipping with or without a sub, POCL shall be no more than ___. When ceilings are above 1000 ft, POCL shall be no more than ___. During operational ASW involving a sub, under conditions that preclude a freestream recovery, then POCL ___.
Half the ceiling up to 1000 ft ceiling 500 ft below ceiling Need not be restricted
43
SSBN class
ballistic missile/nuclear powered; carry nucs
44
SSN class
nuclear powered; attack ships
45
SSGN class
guided cruise missile/nuclear; attack countries
46

kilo
47
SSP class
air independent propulsion (diesel)
48
SUBMRG light on at ___ ft when lowering and off at ___ ft when raising
28, 20
49
RMCU 1177
Loss of uplink
50
Kiting light
Condition when cable is paying out at a greater rate than TA depth is increasing
51
Where can you find RMCU codes?
Ch 18 of NATOPS
52
Normal dipper modes
Automatic and manual hydraulic modes
53
Auxiliary Hydraulic Mode
- manually controls Servo valve if RMIU fails - bypasses RMIU and RMCU and all safety locks - does not stop it at trail, lock it or seat it - used if electrical failure - used to correct miswraps, reseat to get a SEATED light, to recover transducer when reeling machine control system has failed
54
Caution about lowering the dome via aux hyd
Will damage electronics because it doesn’t have ESD
55
Aux Electric Mode
- full safety features - stops at trail - slower raise speed —> cable not sufficiently tensioned so may cause problems if raising TA from 1000 ft or deeper - used in the event of a hydraulic fault - can only be used to recover dome - except in emergency, shall only be used if dome submerged
56
Aux Hardware Electric Mode
- bypasses all safeties - doesn’t auto stop or lock - entered by holding RMCU SAFETY OVRD and RMCU RAISE when in aux electric - used when failures prevent any other mode - raise only
57
Hand Crank Mode
Mx only
58
Bottom light
Within 50 ft of bottom
59
Priorities for landing location with hung dome
1. Ashore or aviation ship (CVN or LHA/LHD) 2. Air capable ships may be considered if ambient conditions and POCL permits pilots’ adequate reference to position the aircraft
60
Submerge override (WING SOP)
Shall not be used for routine ops
