asthma Bronchodilators- Cysteinyl leukotriene antagonists Flashcards
Zileutin actions
is an active inhibitor of 5-lipoxygenase, and thus inhibits leukotrienes (LTB4, LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4) formation.
What is the function of leukotrienes?
bronchoconstriction
oedema
inflammation
chemoattraction
How is Zileutin taken?
orally
What receptor does Montelukast act on?
Montelukast is a CysLT1 antagonist
what do the actions of Montelukast cause? (whats the therapuetic effect)
It reduces the bronchoconstriction otherwise caused by the leukotriene and results in less inflammation.
It relaxes the airways
How is Montelukast taken?
It is usually administered orally once a day.
When is Montelukast used?
Inhibit exercise induced asthma
Less effective than salbutamol but can be used as an adjunct
What are the side effects of Montelukast?
can cause GI upsets / headache
