How does peak flow test indicate good control of symptoms?
Peak flow tests measure the amount of air being forced out of the lungs. This gives asthma patients and nurses a good indication of when the lung functioning begins to become impaired smooth an be treated and prevented.
In terms of asthma medications what is a preventer ?
A preventer inhaler is something that acts as a prophylaxis. It prevents the airways from inflaming meaning they reduce the chance of having an asthmatic episode .
What is a reliever inhaler ?
A reliever inhaler relaxes the walls of the airways when someone feels short of breath or like they are having an asthma attack. They act as more of a treatment.
Why is a spacer recommended when using multi dose inhalers (MDI)?
Spacers help the delivery of the asthma medication
They reduce side effects of irritation and less medication gets deposited din throat and mouth
Reduce need for good coordination when using the inhaler
