  • The codon is triplet. 61 codons code for amino acids, 3 are stop codons
  • The code is degenerate.
  • The codon is read in mRNA in a continuous fashion.
  • The codon is nearly universal.
  • AUG has dual functions. Codes for Methionine and acts as initiator codon.
  • UAA, UAG and UGA are the stop codons.
