Define a biopsychosocial assessment and its purpose

A

Used to get a complete, as much as possible, picture of the client’s problems.

Biological section - medical history, family mental illness history, development history, current medication, substance use

Psychological section - present psychiatric illness/symptoms, past or current stressors, mental status, also explore how problem have been handled/approached in the past

Social section - Client systems & client unique context; support systems, identify resources/strengths available for intervention, personal history, education and work history

P: Plan - plan includes will be done as result of the assessment
