Gathered before teaching - helps decide what you need to prepare for lessons
Summative assessment
Finished unit test- usually graded
Errors of measurement
No test accurately measures a students achievements
Reliability
Reliable test is consistent- similar results when given to the same person in a short time span
Validity
Measure what they are suppose to measure
Content validity
Material covered in the unit
Criterion validity
Predicts the ability to do other work
-ex: a test to be a automobile mechanic with high criterion validity will successfully predict who will be a good mechanic
Norm - referenced tests
Designed to compare students
Ex: IQ tests
Standardized achievement tests
Students compared to other students
Criterion - referenced tests
Determine if the objective of the unit has been reached
Authentic assessment
1- observer takes notes & discusses the observation with students
2- portfolios
3- maintain journals and logs with descriptions, sketches and other notes
