Radioactive material is ingested and a specialized camera produces images
Positron Emission Tomography
PET. Images the metabolism of a radiopharmaceutical
Radiography
Xrays passed through the body and images produced (X-ray machine)
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography
SPECT. Images produced of radioactive material after injected into the bloodstream
Ultrasonography
Ultrasound directed at tissues creating echoes that show on the screen
Biopsy
Bx. Removal of diseased tissue for exam and diagnosis
Excisional biopsy
whole lesion is removed
Incisional Biopsy
sample of lesion is removed
Ablation
removal of a structure via surgery, freezing, cautery, chemical destruction
Anastomosis
surgical joining of tube structures to allow flow
Curettage
scraping a cavity with a spoon (curet)
Electrocauterization
using an electrical instrument to burn and destroy diseased tissue
Incision and Drainage
I&D. A cut that allows free flow
Laser surgery
laser light used to remove diseased tissue
Revision
replace an implant or correct undesirable surgery result
