Assessing a Pt with HTN part 2 Flashcards
Consequences of HTN
Starting at 115/75, risk of CV disease doubles with every 20/10 mm Hg increase
Increased risk of
stroke
myocardial infarction (MI)
angina
heart failure
kidney failure
early death from a CV cause
dementia
Why do we care?
Reduces CV morbidity and mortality rates
Risk Factors of Hypertension
Age
Alcohol
CKD
Cigarette Smoking
Dehydration
Diabetes Mellitus
Elevated serum lipids
Ethnicity
Excess Na+ in diet
Family History
Liver issues
Obesity
Poor sleep quality
Sedentary
Lifestyle
Socioeconomic
Stress
Is patient at goal?
Reduce CVD and renal morbidity and mortality.
BP goals <130/80 for all patients
Start treating 130-139/80-89 for patients with ASCVD risk ≥10%
Treat to BP <130/80 mmHg for all (except acute intracranial hemorrhage SBP goal <140 AND post TIA/stroke for patients previously treated for BP: goal <140/90; if new diagnosis treat to <130/80)
