Assembly and Rigging Flashcards
What is a servo tab?
Primarily used on the large main control surfaces. They aid in moving the control surface and holding it in the desired position. Only the servo tab moves in response to movement by the pilot of the primary flight controls.
What is a spring tab?
An auxiliary control that aids in moving the primary control surface at high speeds when the forces become too great.
What is a balanced trim tab?
An auxillary control designed to move in the opposite direction of the primary flight control it’s attached to. The aerodynamic forces acting on the tab assist in moving the primary control surface.
What are three mechanical methods used to actuate flight control systems?
Cables, push-pull rods, torque tubes
Name four high lift devices
Leading Edge Flaps, Trailing edge Flaps, Slats and slots
What is the purpose of a rotorcraft cyclic pitch control?
Changes the pitch of each main rotor blade during a cycle of rotation. The helicopter moves in the direction the main rotor disc was tilted.
What is the purpose of the rotorcraft collective pitch control?
Varies the lift of the main rotor blades by increasing or decreasing pitch angle of all blades simultaneously.
What unit compensates for helicopter main rotor torque?
An auxiliary or tail rotor
What controls a helicopter tail rotor?
The foot fedals
What flight controls are considered the primary group?
Ailerons, Elevators, and Rudder
What flight controls are included in the auxiliary group?
Leading and Trailing edge flaps, slots, spoilers, and speed brakes
What are the three axes of an aircraft?
Vertical, Longitudinal, and lateral
Where does breakage of a control cables occur mostly frequently?
Where cables pass over pulleys and through fairleads
What items must be known before using a typical cable rigging chart?
The size of the cable and ambient air temperature
What are cable tension regulators?
A mechanical device that automatically maintains a set cable tension by adjusting for the aircraft structure shrinking or stretching.
