S.39. It is an intentional and reckless act in which the victim experiences unlawful force or violence
What are the two possible offences of common assault?
Common assault by threat and assault by battery (both summary only offences)
What is battery? (assault by beating) S.39 CJA 1988
Intentional or reckless application of unlawful force. it results in minor injuries and can range from a push to a punch

What constitutes as ABH?
Application of force which leaves short term injuries (can be psychological)

Define GBH
Victim receives life changing injuries (broken bones, heavy bleeding, knowingly transmitting sexual diseases)

S.18 Offences Against the Persons Act 1861
What is the maximum penalty for GBH with intent?
Life imprisonment
