What is an aspergilloma?
A
An aspergilloma is a mycetoma (mass-like fungus ball) which often colonises an existing lung cavity (e.g. secondary to tuberculosis, lung cancer, emphysema or cystic fibrosis)

What are the features?
A
Usually asymptomatic but features may include
- cough
- haemoptysis (may be severe)

What investigations would you do and what would you see?
A
Investigations
- chest x-ray containing a rounded opacity
- FBC - high titres Aspergillus precipitins

What would be the treatment before knowing it was aspergillus?
A
Broad spec antibiotics, with no improvement.
