ie: If a person has a Sun in 5° Leo, and has a Mars in 5° Leo, this person has a Sun Conjunct Mars aspect.

A conjunction is a positive aspect but, it can become negative if there are too many in a chart.

Sextile

Two signs when they are 2 signs apart, or 60° apart

ie: Taurus and Cancer are Sextile. Gemini and Aries are also sextile.

Sextile aspect is positive and friendly. It is a nice mix of elements, and rarely is there clashing.

Trine

This is when signs are in the same element, or 120° apart.

ie: Aries is trine Leo and Sagittarius. Cancer is trine Scorpio, and Pisces

Trine is a positive aspect. Signs in the same element indicate harmony and ease.

Square

A square is signs in the same mode; mutable, cardinal, and fixed; They are 90° from each other.

ie: Taurus is Square Aquarius and Leo
tip: Signs are square signs that are in elements that they aren’t sextile to. For example, Earth signs go with Water signs, so both Earth and Water signs’ square sign will be a fire element and an air element.

A square aspect is very action oriented, but it causes clashing, tension, and conflict.

Opposite

Signs that are opposite each other are 180° from each other.

ie: Aries is opposite Libra, Taurus is opposite Scorpio, Gemini is opposite Sagittarius…
tip: Signs are opposite the sign that are in the element that they are comfortable with. For example, Air signs are comfortable with Fire Signs. Gemini is sextile Leo, and Aries, but is opposite Sagittarius.

An opposition aspect challenges the person to balance out energies. It can cause conflict, but having no oppositions in a chart is also not good.
