ASIA Scale Flashcards

1
Q

Why do we use the ASIA scale

A

It is a standardized way to define SCI and we can use it to help determine our patient prognosis

Q

How is motor graded

A
6 point scale (0-5)
0 = no active movement
1 = muscle contraction
2 = movement thru ROM w/o gravity
3 = movement thru ROM against gravity
4 = movement against some resistance
5 = movement against full resistance

Q

How is deep anal sensation recorded

A

Deep anal sensation recorded
“present vs absent”
May be the only evidence of a clinically incomplete SCI
Recommended method of testing is by digital examination The patient is asked to describe any sensory awareness, including feelings of touch and/or pressure
