How to determine most caudal motor function?
lowest segment with motor grade 3 or better AND all segments above are a 5
sensory components of rectal exam
peri-anal sensation and deep anal pressure
motor components of rectal exam
voluntary anal contraction
T/F: ASI-A may have zones of partial preservations
true
- they do not change prognosis of the patient and are usually insignificant in ASI-A
T/F: All motor and sensory ZPP should be documented
false
- motor ZPP should be documented in all cases
- sensory ZPP documented in the absence of sensory function in S4/5
ASI-B classification
- sensory but no motor function AND includes the sacral segments S4/5
- No motor function is preserved more than 3 levels below the motor level
ASI-C classification
- motor function is preserved at most caudal sacral segments for voluntary anal contraction OR
- sparing of motor functions more than 3 levels below ipsilateral motor level
- LESS than 1/2 of key muscle functions below NLI have muscle grade >/= 3
ASI-D classification
- at least an ASI- C AND
- at least 1/2 or more of key muscle functions below NLI have muscle grade >/= 3
