Asia 1750 - 1900 Flashcards
What is a Filipino?
The term was created as an identity by people who lived in the archipelago of the modern-day country of the Philippines
Compare a Zaibatsu in the late 1800s to monopolies in the United States, such as Standard Oil.
Zaibatsus were similar to a monopoly in their size but differed in two key areas.
First, these large state-sponsored corporations were usually owned by a single-family.
Second, a zaibatsu was not limited to one specific industry but participated in several different industries.
One of the most famous of all the zaibatsu was the Mitsubishi Group, which started as a shipping company but expanded to include steel production, chemical production, and oil production.
