1. Clip and vacuum
2. Remove or replace your lab coat and don a surgical cap, mask and exam gloves
3. Scrub the skin using 2 consecutive sterile soap brushes soaked with chlorhexidine and warm water (5 minutes)
4. Clean at least 3 times with alcohol-soaked gauzes
5. Clean at least 3 times with alcohol/chlorhexidine-
   soaked gauzes
6. Cover the surgical field with a sterile drape for transport to OR

   At the OVC, two consecutive soap scrubs (using two separate scrub brushes soaked with tap water), are performed while wearing non-sterile exam gloves (total of 5 minutes contact time)

1. Open scrub brush pack and place onto scrub sink
2. Pump soap
3. Add water
4. Create lather all over hands and arms
5. Grasp nail pick
6. Clean under each nail under running water
7. Rinse hands and arms keeping hands higher than elbows

   Look at the clock (should scrub for 5 minutes) Wet chlorhexidine impregnated sponge
   Apply suds all over hands and arms to begin soap contact time with skin
   Begin scrubbing at fingernails using the bristle brush Then scrub each hand with the sponge side of the brush
   üStart with the fingers followed by the palms, and tops of hands (fingers & hands – 2 min each)
   üWrists & arms (to elbows – 1 min each)
   DO NOT RETURN TO AN AREA ONCE YOU HAVE MOVED ON
   IF you touch the tap, add an extra minute Rinse (hands up without touching the tap)

§ Apply the first dose into one palm
§ Soak opposite fingertips and rub
into fingernails & along the arm
§ Repeat with the other hand (2nd dose)
§ Apply a 3rd dose that is
spread over all areas of both hands and wrists (not arms)
§ Rub until dry – DO NOT WAVE or USE A HAND TOWEL
