9
Q

multi-spectral imaging provides unique capabilities to identify and differentiate materials on the ground based on their what?

A

Using Spectral signatures MSI can see in color. (can differentiate between turf and grass…or camo and foliage)

Spectral signatures is the variation of reflectance or emittance of a material with respect to wavelengths….a unique pattern of wavelengths radiated from an object.

11
Q

what determines spectral resolution?

A

the more bands a sensor can break a portion of the spectrum into, the higher the resolution.

the # of bands ability to distinguish between wavelengths.

The ability of a sensor to define fine wavelength intervals. the finer the spectral resolution, the narrower the wavelength range for a particular channel or band.

In order: Broadband, multispectral, hyperspectral, ultra spectral.

spectral signature is like a fingerprint.

What are some uses/ issues of those capabilities?

A
  1. SATCOM: C2, Data Return Link, Secure Voice Comms
  2. GPS: Nav, timing, point sensor, satcom antenna
  3. ISR: Sensor Payload, Target, BDA
  4. Weather: Ceiling Height, Sensor Selection, LRE Operation
17
Q

What are the UAS vulnerabilities associated with each space linkage? (5)

A
  1. SATCOM- LOS Issues
  2. GPS - Jamming
  3. ISR - Weather
18
Q

what high-altitude strategic UAS operated by the Air Force has no armaments but can swell over a target area for more than 24 hours?

A

RQ-4B Global Hawk

19
Q

Are all UAS dependent on SATCOM and GPS?

A

No, Army systems are reliant on GPS NOT SATCOM

20
Q

A
  • INSCOM, SOCOM, DIVISION
  • SATCOM enabled, GPS enabled
  • EO, IR, SAR, Offensive Hellfire

23
Q

The NRO (National Reconnaissance Office) is involved in every phase of a satellite’s life cycle. List the 5 phases

A
  1. Research and Development
  2. Acquisitions
  3. Launch
  4. Operations
  5. End of Life
24
Q

During the ‘collection process’, users identify intelligence collection needs, and Collection Managers identify valid collection requirements. How does the NRO support users and their intelligence collection needs?

A

NRO systems collect the needed intelligence

25
Q

In the Intelligence Cycle, the ‘Tasking’ phase is the creation of the collection priority list for each sensor type and satellite. Who is responsible for the ‘Tasking’ phase of this cycle?

A

The agency that is the intelligence discipline manager for the associated sensor/ system

26
Q

the PED cycle (Processing, Exploitation and Dissemination) is a subset of the overall intelligence cycle. Of these three, which two are NOT the primary responsibility of the NRO?

A

Exploitation and Dissemination are NOT.

Only Processing

Of the Intel cycle, the NRO only does Collects and Process…that’s it.

27
Q

What is the Nations only military Weather Satellite?

A

DMPS

28
Q

________ is the technique in which a panchromatic image is overlaid on a multi-spectral image to increase resolution.

A

Pansharpened is a process of merging high-resolution panchromatic and lower resolution multispectral imagery to create a single high-resolution color image

29
Q

Where is one of the easiest places to obtain unclassified imagery products?

A

NGA

30
Q

which UAS can be augmented by SATCOM?

Which band of the microwave portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is used by this platform? why?

A

MQ-1C can be augmented by SATCOM

SHF is used because of it being the ‘sweet spot’, good data, low scintillation

31
Q

Which unmanned Aerial System(s) is/ are dependent on GPS?

A

Army systems are reliant on GPS

32
Q

What is the name of the joint US and Russian Federation effort for Search and Rescue (SAR) operations?

A

COSPAS-SARSAT
