What do you need to consider under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
A
- If you are responsible for maintenance of non-domestic property - there ‘have a duty to manage’ asbestos on-site
- Under these regulations non-licensed works are to be notified to the enforcing authority (HSE)
- Operatives involved in non-licensed works are to be monitored by a doctor.

- Chrysotile (White) - The most commonly used type of Asbestos banned in 1999
- Amosite (Brown) - banned in 1985
- Crocidolite (Blue) - banned 19885

What asbestos work does not require a license?
A
- Cleaning up smaller quantities of loose/fine dust of ACM where the control limit is not exceeded, the frequency of the work is sporadic and the work is of a short duration.
- Drilling of fixtures and fittings into decorative coatings.
- Encapsulation or containment of asbestos containing materials which are in a good condition.

What asbestos containing materials do require a licence?
A
- Clearing larger quantities of loose/ fine debris of ACM where the control limit is exceeded, is required frequently and work is of a longer duration.
- Any work involving loose fill insulation
- Removing or disruption of pipe lagging.
- Removing sprayed coatings (limpet asbestos)
