What is chord?
A straight line from the luff of a sail to the leech.
What is sail depth
The distance from the chord to the sail.
What is chord-depth ratio?
A maximum depth along a chord expressed as a percentage of the chord length.
Does a lower or higher chord depth ratio generate more power?
Higher
What is draft position?
The location along a chord with the maximum depth.
What is the angle of attack?
The angle at which the the wind strikes the chord.
What is the most important factor in sail trim?
The angle of wind attack.
What is wind gradient?
The fact that the wind at the head of a sail is faster than at the foot of the sail due to the friction of the wind and water.
How do you accommodate wind gradient?
Sail twist. You can alter this by adjusting the sheet.
