AS91166 - Chemical Reactivity Flashcards
Pressure
Force per area exerted by one object against another; force caused by gas molecules hitting the walls of the container
How many moles does 2O2 have?
2moles
To decrease pressure..
…the reaction which produces the lesser moles of gas will be favoured.
e.g. if the reactants have 2 moles of gas but the products have 1, the forward reaction would be favoured.
Endothermic Reactions
Products have more energy than reactants.
Favoured when the temperature increases because heat must be removed from the system.
Exothermic Reactions
Reactants have more energy than products.
Favoured when the temperature decreases, as heat must be added to the system.
Do strong or weak acids dissociate fully?
Strong acids
Examples of strong acids:
HCl, H2SO4, HNO3
Examples of strong bases:
Metal hydroxides/sodium hydroxides - NaOH
