Articulating Surfaces Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the Femoral Articulating Surfaces
A
- Ends of the Lateral and Medial condyles of the femur.
- Biconvex (antero- posteriorly & medio-laterally)
- Lateral condyle is shorter and wider
- Medial condyle projects further distally
- Covered in hyaline cartilage
(- Central patella trochlear surface with a larger lateral buttress wall aspect than the medial condyle.)
2
Q
Describe the articulating surface of the tibia
A
- Superior aspect of the medial and lateral tibial condyles also known as the tibial plateau
- Concave centrally but flatter in the periphery for the attachment of the menisci
- Covered in hyaline cartilage
- Condyles are separated by intercondylar eminences which allow for the attachment of the cruciate ligaments.
- Medial surface is larger antero-posteriorly to accomodate medial femoral condyle.
