Over Versus Covert Conduct Disorder
Corff & Toupin, 2014
In an effort to distinguish between potential subtypes of CD, research has supported a distinction between overt and covert antisocial behaviors, which vary in etiology, presentation and personality traits.
- Contrary to previous research, the results of the present study suggest that it is overt, not covert, CD symptoms which predict later APD.
- It is possible that these findings results from a wider range of overt CD symptoms, and that the range of overt symptoms in previous studies was too limited to reveal the association between overt CD symptoms and future APD.
- The significance of covert symptoms in past studies may have reflected the association between the total number of CD symptoms and APD.
Parent And Self-Reported Dimensions of Oppositionality in Youth
Aebi et al 2013
• Both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional concept of ODD were supported
o The two dimensional approach is recommended in addressing the primary outcomes of ODD-irritability.
o The three dimensional approach is both applicable in forensic research as well as treatment studies, as ODD-hurtful has been identified as a predictor of treatment resistance in CD.
• The ODD-hurtful dimension is particularly promising in aiding understanding of criminal behavior, and should be assessed independently of other behavioral ODD symptoms
Distinguishing Sluggish Cognitive Tempo from ADHD in Children and Adolescents: Executive Functioning, Impairment, and Comorbidity
Russell A. Barkley
- SCT symptom dimensions are indeed distinct from ADHD symptom dimensions
- Executive functioning (EF) deficits in daily life activities present different patterns between ADHD and SCT
- Unlike ADHD symptoms, SCT symptoms are not significantly associated with age, sex, or minority status. Instead, SCT shows higher correlation with lower family SES.
In terms of assessment, clinicians should not necessarily relate inattention with ADHD, nor view symptoms as a milder IN subtype. In terms of treatment, since SCT is not a disorder of EF as is the case with ADHD, it is suggested that different methods be developed specifically for the treatment of SCT
