Article 8 - Playing time, tied score and overtime

Question 1

B1 fouls A1 in act of shooting before the game clock signal sounds for the end of the quarter. The shot was unsuccessful.

The crew consults and determines the foul occurred before the game clock signal sounded. What is our procedure?

Answer 1

• B1 shall be charged with a personal foul.
• A1 shall attempt 2 free throws.
• Game clock shall be reset to the time remaining when the foul occurred.

Question 2

B1 fouls A1 in act of shooting before the game clock signal sounds for the end of the quarter. The shot was successful.

The crew consults and determines the foul occurred after the game clock signal sounded. What is our procedure?

Answer 2

• The foul shall be disregarded.
• The goal shall not count.

Note: If B1’s foul meets the criteria of an UF or a DQ and there is a quarter or overtime to follow, B1’s foul shall be penalised accordingly before the next quarter or overtime starts. The foul shall count towards the team fouls of team B for the next quarter.

Question 3

A1 attempts a shot for a 3-point goal. The ball is in the air when the game clock signal sounds for the end of the game. After the signal, B1 fouls A1 who is still airborne. The ball enters the basket. What is our procedure?

Answer 3

A1 shall be awarded 3 points. B1’s foul against A1 shall be disregarded as it occurred after the end of playing time, unless B1’s foul meets the criteria of a UF or a DQ and there is a quarter or overtime to follow.

What is the longest interval of play?

Answer 4

There shall be an interval of play of 20 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin.

Question 5

How long is the half-time interval?

Answer 5

There shall be a half-time interval of play of 15 minutes.

Question 6

When does an interval of play begin?

Answer 6

• 20 minutes before the game is scheduled to begin, and
• When the game clock signal sounds for the end of the quarter or overtimes.

Question 7

When does an interval of play end?

Answer 7

• At the beginning of the first quarter when the ball leaves the hand(s) of the crew chief on the toss for the jump ball.
• At the beginning of all other quarters and overtimes when the ball is at the disposal of the player taking the throw-in.

How long is overtime?

Answer 8

If the score is tied at the end of the fourth quarter, the game shall continue with as many overtimes of 5 minutes duration each as necessary to break the tie.

Note: Half of the quarter, if 8min quarters then 4min OT.

Question 9

If a foul is committed during an interval of play, when do we shoot FTs?

Answer 9

If a foul is committed during an interval of play, any eventual free throw(s) shall be administered before the beginning of of the following quarter or overtime.
