How was this right born?
This right was born out of the restrictions of movement and peaceful protest that allowed the Nazi Party in Germany, before and after WW2, to crush any opposition to its government and policies.
What does this article allow?
Article allows citizens to come together for peaceful protest.
Disallows forcing people to join an organisation like a trade union.
ASLEF v UK: Article 11
A, the trade union expelled a member for being an activist of the British Nationalist Party. The member took the union to the employment tribunal and was readmitted as a member.
Outcome: ECtHR stated there was a violation of A11 stating that a person has the right to join a union, the union also has the right to not admit them for legit reasons.
