Q

Art carpi. (carpal joint) is comprised of:

A

Art. antebrachiocarpea: lies between the distal radius and ulna and the proximal row of carpal bones (also includes the accessory carpal bone)
Art. mediocarpea: lies between the proximal and distal rows of carpal bones.
Art. carpometacarpea: lies between the distal row of carpal bones and the bases of the metacarpal bones. it inclueds the articulations between the bases of adjecent metacarpal bones (Art. intermetacarpea.

14
Q

Extensor Retinaculum

A

A transversely oriented condensation of carpal fascia that helps to hold in grooves all the tendons that cross the dorsum of the carpus. It dips down to blend with the fibrous dorsal part of the joint capsule.

Q

Flexor Retinaculum

A

A modification of the palmar part of the carpal fascia that attaches laterally to the medial part of the enlarged free palmar end of the accessory carpal bone and to the styloid process of the radius.

16
Q

Carpal Canal

A

Formed superficially by the superficial part of the flexor retinaculum and deeply by the palmar carpal fibrocartilage, bounded laterally by the accessory carpal bone. It contains the tendons and synovial sheaths of the mm. flexor digitorum profundus and the tendons of m. flexor carpi radialis.

17
Q

Palmar Carpal Fibrocartilage

A

attached by the palmar intercarpal ligaments to the palmar surface of all carpal bones (except the accessory), and to the proximo-palmar ends of the metacarpals. It also plays an important role in preventing traumatic carpal over-extension and forms the deep wall of the carpal canal.

18
Q

Art. metacarpophalangea

A

formed between the distal end of a Mc bone, the proximal end of P1 and one (digit I) or two (digits II-V) proximal sesamoid bones.

19
Q

Ligaments of the Art. metacarpophalangea

A
  1. Lig. collateral axiale / abaxial
  2. Ligaments of the proximal sesamoid bones:
    a. Lig. palmare
    b. Lig. sesamoideum collateral axiale / abaxial
    c. Lig. sesamoideum rectum
    d. Ligg. sesamoidea cruciata
20
Q

Art. interphalangea proximalis

A

Formed between the distal end of P1 and the proximal end of P2 (absent from digit I that has no P2)

21
Q

Ligaments of the Art. interphalangea proximalis

A

Lig. collateral axial / abaxial

22
Q

Art. interphalangea distalis

A

Formed between the distal end of P2 (P1 in digit I) and the base of P3.

23
Q

Ligaments of the Art. interphalangea distalis

A
  1. Lig. collateral axiale / abaxiale
  2. Lig. sesamoideum collaterl axiale / abaxiale
  3. Ligg. dorsalia
