Arthrology of the Thoracic Limb Flashcards
Art. humeri (shoulder joint) type
Spheroid joint but functions as a Ginglymus (hinge joint)
Stabilzies the Art. humeri
M. infra/suprascapularis + M. subscapularis, M. biceps brachii
Ligaments of the Art. humeri
- Lig. glenohumerale lateral/medial: poorly developed thickening of fibrous part of the joint capsule
- Transverse humeral ligament: collagenous thickening across the tendon of origin of M. biceps brachii at the intertubercular groove
Art. cubiti (elbow joint) type
Hinge joint / Composite joint
Art. cubiti (elbow joint) is composed of:
- humeroradial joint: Capitulum humeri / Trochlea humeri and radius’ head
- humeroulnar joint: Trochlea humeri and Incisura trochlearis of the ulna
- proximal radioulnar joint: Circumferentia articularis radii and the Incisura radialis of the ulna
Ligaments of the Art. cubiti (elbow joint)
- Lig. oblique
- Lig. anulare radii
- Lig. olecrani
- Lig. interosseum antebrachii
- Membrana interossea antebrachii
Art. radoiulnaris distalis (distal radioulnar joint) type
Pivot joint between the Circumferentia articularis ulnare and the Incisura ulnaris of the radius
Ligaments of the Art. radioulnaris distalis
Lig. radioulnare: tightly connects the cranial surfaces of the distal radius and ulna
Art. carpi (carpal joint) type
Composite synovial joint; its joints are all composite because each involves two or more bones.
Art carpi. (carpal joint) is comprised of:
Art. antebrachiocarpea: lies between the distal radius and ulna and the proximal row of carpal bones (also includes the accessory carpal bone)
Art. mediocarpea: lies between the proximal and distal rows of carpal bones.
Art. carpometacarpea: lies between the distal row of carpal bones and the bases of the metacarpal bones. it inclueds the articulations between the bases of adjecent metacarpal bones (Art. intermetacarpea.
Art. intercarpea
intercarpal joints - between adjacent carpal bones. included in the Art. carpi.
Ligaments of the Art. carpi:
- Ligg. intercarpea dorsalida
- Ligg.intercarpea palmaria
- Palmar radiocarpal lig.
- Palmar ulnocarpal lig.
- Dorsal readiocarpal lig.
Ligaments of the Os carpi accessorium - lateral and medial to the accessory carpal bone and connect in to the ulna, the ulnar and fourth carpal bone and McIV-McV.
Fascia of the Carpus:
- Extensor Retinaculum
- Flexor Retinaculum
- Carpal Canal
- Palmar Carpal Fibrocartilage
Extensor Retinaculum
A transversely oriented condensation of carpal fascia that helps to hold in grooves all the tendons that cross the dorsum of the carpus. It dips down to blend with the fibrous dorsal part of the joint capsule.
Flexor Retinaculum
A modification of the palmar part of the carpal fascia that attaches laterally to the medial part of the enlarged free palmar end of the accessory carpal bone and to the styloid process of the radius.
