Arteriovenous Graft Flashcards
What is an AV Graft
Deliberate connection between an artery and a vein that is created by inter positioning graft material between them.
When is AVG Graft an option
If patients vein is too small or blocked - native fistula is gold standard
What materials can be used for a graft
Ptfe
Dacron
Biosynethtic
Where is the graft placed
Tunneled in the subcutaneous tissue
Most frequent late complication avg
Stenosis at the venous anastomosis
What does the photo show
Venous anastomosis stenosis
Complications in AVG Include #1
Thrombosis (clotting) caused by stenosis (narrowing), hypotension (low blood pressure) and excessive compression haemostasis
Complications in AVG Include #2
Infections - incidence of HD bacteremia, patient hygiene
Management - intravenous antibiotic total graft excision
Complications in AVG include #3
Pseudoaneurysm- caused by venous outflow stenosis along with frequent needle cannulation at same site. Can lead to breakdown of graft material resulting in Pseudoaneurysm
Straight Graft Configurations
Radial Artery to antecubtial vein
Distal brachial artery to axilliary vein
What straight configuration is this
Radial artery to anticubtial vein
What straight configuration is this
Brachial/radial artery to axillary vein
Omniflow must me kept in a ______ and will be tunneled ______
Straight configuration / tunneled subcutaneously
Omniflow should be left to heal for at least ____
Two weeks minimum
Omniflow fistula common configuration
Basilica to Brachial
