arteries, veins, capillaries etc Flashcards
Venules
small vessels that collect blood from capillary beds and unite to form veins
Shunt vessels
link an artery directly to a vein, bypassing capillaries.
function to control blood flow. In endotherms (warm blooded animals) the shunt vessels dilate in response to cold, thereby cutting off the blood flow to the extremities and preventing heat loss
Arterioles
smaller muscular blood vessels that reduce pressure of blood before it enters capillaries. their size is regulated so important function in controlling blood pressure.
