Arteries Flashcards
External Iliac
most cranial branch caudal to ovarian/testicular arteries, paired, comes off descending aorta
Internal Iliac
next branch of paired arteries off the descending aorta after external iliac arteries; branches into internal pudendal and caudal gluteal arteries
Internal pudendal
can be larger in lactating/pregnant females; gives rise to prostatic/vaginal artery
Median sacral
termination of descending aorta caudal to branches of internal iliac arteries, unpaired
Umbilical
large, paired vessel that carries blood from the aorta to the placenta through the umbilicus; remnant visible, if patent, would give rise to the cranial vesical arteries
Caudal gluteal
branch off internal iliac artery, gives rise to iliolumbar artery and cranial gluteal artery, supplies muscles in the caudal thigh
Iliolumbar
branch off caudal gluteal artery, supplies muscles in lumbar area around spine
Cranial gluteal
branch off caudal gluteal artery, supplies cranial gluteal muscles
Vaginal/Prostatic
branch off the internal pudendal artery, forms 45 degree angle, passes ventrally in an arch, terminates in cranial and caudal branches
Uterine/Artery of ductus deferens
cranial branch off vaginal/prostatic artery, gives rise to caudal vesicle artery
Middle rectal
caudal branch off the vaginal/prostatic artery; supplies branches to the rectum and vagina (females)/prostate (males) and urethra (males)
Caudal vesical
branch off uterine/artery of ductus deferens
Internal pudendal a. Caudal rectal a. Ventral perineal a. Artery of clitoris (female) Artery of penis (male) Artery of bulb of penis Deep artery of penis Dorsal artery of penis
